  • On iPhone, choose the data line under Settings, Cellular, Cellular Data, according to Apple.

Before you start

Apple says an iPhone needs eSIM support and a supporting carrier or service provider. To use another carrier abroad, the iPhone must be unlocked. Apple's check is Settings, General, About: look for No SIM Restrictions beside Carrier Lock.

Apple lists Wi-Fi or a hotspot as a setup requirement, with exceptions for some eSIM-only iPhones in certain countries or regions. Check your device and seller's requirements before installing. Our best travel eSIM guide covers plan comparisons and phone checks.

Step 1: Install using your seller's instructions

Apple says carriers provide digital activation steps, such as a QR code or a carrier app. Use the instructions supplied with your plan.

Airalo's help centre lists articles for direct installation, QR code installation and manual installation on iOS and Samsung Galaxy. These are the methods named in the listing; this guide does not reproduce their detailed steps or confirm availability for every device. The listing also links to an Android setup article.

Step 2: Check which line is on

Apple's instructions for checking an active line are to open Settings, Cellular and make sure Turn On This Line is enabled beside the line you want to use. Its cited example concerns the primary eSIM when returning home. Follow your seller's activation instructions for your travel line.

Step 3: Choose the data line on iPhone

Apple gives this manual selection path:

  1. Open Settings.
  2. Tap Cellular, then Cellular Data.
  3. Select the line you want to use for data.

Use this menu to select your travel eSIM or switch back to your Philippine line. Apple also says to turn off travel eSIM lines no longer in use after returning home.

Data roaming and your Philippine number

Apple says you can use a travel eSIM by itself or alongside your home line. It warns that keeping both lines on can still result in roaming fees from the home line.

The sources checked here do not give device-specific data roaming settings. Check your plan's installation instructions and your home carrier's roaming terms before using both lines. Do not assume choosing the travel eSIM for data makes all use of your home line free.

Calls, SMS and bank OTP availability on your Philippine number are not confirmed by these sources. Confirm international service availability and charges with your carrier, and OTP arrangements with your bank. Our roaming vs travel eSIM guide covers the comparison.

Using an eSIM on Android

Airalo's listing includes Samsung Galaxy installation articles and an Android setup article. This check did not verify the detailed Android menu paths for adding an eSIM, enabling a line, selecting data or configuring roaming. Use your seller's instructions for your device rather than the iPhone paths above.
